Although chewing gum can help stimulate jaw muscles, it cannot create a larger and squarer jawline, giving the person a more chiseled look.

Plenty of theories cite that chewing gum regularly gives you a firm and chiseled jawline, but all of them lack authentic scientific research to support their credibility. Genes play a key role in the shape of your face and, in particular, the jaw area.

Chewing is a process that involves various facial muscles, called “masticatory muscles,” such as the temporalis, medial and lateral pterygoid, and masseter, of which the masseter is the main muscle used in chewing.

Chewing gum can help stimulate jaw muscles. However, it cannot create a larger and squarer jawline, giving a person a chiseled look.

Can chewing gum give you a well-defined jawline?

The muscles responsible for chewing are present in the cheeks and neck and not in the jawline; hence, chewing gum would not give you a better and well-defined jawline.

Can chewing gum help lose fat on your jawline?

Although chewing gum may help you strengthen the facial muscles, it is unlikely to reduce fat deposits on the face and neck. Dietary changes and exercise to lose weight are necessary to experience noticeable changes.

Is it bad to chew gum every day?

Chewing gum is a favorite pastime for many people worldwide.

  • Some people prefer gum chewing as a breath freshener and as a way to reduce stress, improve concentration or memory, avoid sleepiness, burn calories, and minimize food cravings.
  • Nicotine gums are used to help you quit smoking.

Despite all of this, there are some debilitating effects of chewing gum, including:

Are there any ways to get a better jawline?

Aging and fat accumulation can change the shape of the face, making the jawline less defined.

Here are a few methods that can change the appearance of your jawline:

  • Nonsurgical options
    • Losing weight by a healthy diet: Reducing your calorie intake and eating a balanced diet, including green leafy vegetables, grains, fruits, and healthy fats, while avoiding oily, fatty foods, will help you get a prominent jawline.
    • Physical activity or regular exercises: Facial muscle exercises can give you a defined jawline and prevent neck pain, jaw pain, and headache.
    • Dermal fillers: These are injected directly into the jawline with results lasting for 12 to 18 months.
    • Botox: Neurotoxins are placed into the masseter muscle, giving a “V”-like shape with results lasting for three to four months.
    • Kybella: An injection of a melting agent—deoxycholic acid—helps melt excess fat in the chin with results that are permanent until overall weight is maintained.
    • Surgical thread lifts: A noninvasive procedure that involves sutures under the skin to uplift the face with results lasting for 6 to 12 months.
  • Surgical options
    • Neck liposuction: Removes fat from the neck and jawline and tightens skin with permanent results.
    • Neck lift: Helps remove excess fat, tightens skin, and provides the best long-term results.
    • Chin augmentation or implants: Involves the use of implants to enhance the appearance of the chin and jawline.
